Location data

All location processing occurs in your browser. Your coordinates, speed, altitude and route are read from your device, used to draw the readings on screen, and discarded when you close the tab. We do not store, upload, or access them, and they are never transmitted to us or to anyone else.

Your browser asks for your permission before the Site can read your position, and you can withdraw it at any time in your browser's site settings. Settings you choose — unit, display and so on — are kept in your browser's local storage on your own device.

Your use

Use the Site at your own risk. You are responsible for the content you process. Do not use the Site for illegal purposes or attempt to integrate it into other applications.

Readings are for reference only. They are not a legal, certified or calibrated measurement, they degrade badly indoors, in tunnels and between tall buildings, and they must not be relied on where accuracy matters for safety. Never operate this Site while driving, riding or otherwise in control of a vehicle — set it up before you set off, or have a passenger handle it. You are responsible for obeying speed limits and for driving to the conditions.

Cookies, analytics & ads (Google)

We use Google Analytics for anonymous usage statistics and Google AdSense to serve ads. We also use cookies for statistical purposes. By using this Site, you consent to our use of cookies.

Google uses cookies for ad personalization and measurement. Learn how Google collects and uses data: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Changes, service & disclaimer

We may change these terms or the Site, and reserve the right to change or cease any services at kmspeedometer.com, at any time, without notice. The Site is provided "as is" without any guarantees.

Contact us

For anything wrong with the Site — a reading that looks incorrect, a page that will not load, or a privacy question — write to [email protected].

For everything else, including feedback and suggestions for a tool you would like to see, use [email protected].

We read everything and answer most messages within a few working days. There is no contact form because the Site keeps no session, no database and no cookie of its own, and a form would need all three.

Reporting a problem

Almost every report we cannot act on is missing one of these. Including them turns a guess into a fix:

  • Which page you were on, and the address in the bar.
  • Your device and browser — "iPhone 14, Safari" is enough.
  • What you expected to see, and what you saw instead.
  • Whether you were indoors, in a tunnel or between tall buildings at the time. Most "wrong speed" reports turn out to be a weak satellite fix.
  • The accuracy figure the page was showing. Above ±50 m the device is not using GPS at all.

Two things are worth checking before you write. A GPS reading lower than your car's dashboard is expected — speedometers are required to over-read, never to under-read. And distance climbing while you are parked is satellite drift, which the strict accuracy filter in settings removes.
